Haibin Ling was recently named a 2023 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow for his contributions to computer vision in the areas of visual tracking and matching.

IEEE recognizes members with outstanding accomplishments in the IEEE fields of interest. Fellows are nominated by their peers and are required to be in good standing for five years with IEEE. Nominees must have scientific accomplishments that have contributed to better inform and give value to society.

"I am so honored to be recognized as an IEEE Fellow. This recognition is not only acknowledgement of my work in the field of computer vision but it also confirms that I am part of a global community of research excellence." said Ling.

Professor Ling’s interests lie in computer vision, augmented reality, medical image analysis, visual privacy protection, and human computer interaction. By studying a wide range of topics, he hopes that interacting, seeing and visualizing the world would be the next steps for machines.

Ling received his PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland and joined Stony Brook University in 2019 as a SUNY Empire Innovation Professor. The Empire Innovation Program (EIP) recruits faculty with impressive research accomplishments to strengthen certain research areas. He is a NSF CAREER award recipient and to date has written over 300 publications which have been cited more than 29,000 times.
