Biography

Yi Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics & Statistics and the Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook University. He conducts teaching and research in support of the Data Science Program, jointly offered by the two departments. He is a core faculty member at the AI Innovation Institute (AI3) and also affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Computational Science. Before that, He was an Assistant Professor at Florida State University. Yi received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Texas A&M University in 2022. He received his M.E. in Biomedical Engineering and B.E. in Electronic Engineering, both from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

Research

Yi Liu's current and specific research interests are Geometric Deep Learning, AI for Science (AI4Science), AI for Engineering, Agentic AI for Science, LLMs for Science, and Scientific Machine Learning. He strives to develop AI, agentic AI, and LLM methods to solve important problems in science and engineering, including but not limited to quantum chemistry, materials science, biology, physics, PDEs, climate science, geoscience, and civil engineering.
